Matuiku School Receives Water Tank Gift
As many of you will be aware, Kenya Rainwater Association (KRA) has been focused on a major fundraising initiative during August, the Global Giving Challenge! We are very excited because we achieved our goal of $4000 (and more)! This means we have a permanent spot on Global Giving’s website to continue raising online funds for Matuiku Primary’s School’s rainwater harvesting system.
One of the unexpected benefits of the challenge, was a generous donation of a 10,000-litre plastic water tank (branded Top Tank) from Kenya-based company Tile and Carpet Centre Ltd. Although KRA plans to build a 50,000-litre cement and brick tank at the project site next year, this donation will give the school storage capacity right now and will mean that they have extra storage capacity next year – in total, potential to store 60,000 litres! This could last the school around three months.
Headmaster of Matuiku Primary School, Mr. Ndegwa, received the tank on behalf of the school at a presentation event on Tuesday 30th August. He is working hard to mobilise the community ready for the main project implementation next year. The parent-teacher committee will contribute to the construction of the tank and pond with their own labour.
